Create an LCD Monitor

This tutorial with guide you through how to make a LCD monitor:

This tutorial takes in to account that you know the basics of Photoshop.

1.

Open Photoshop and create a new image, I am using 1024x768

2.

Firstly take a screenshot of your desktop or a website so that you can use it on the screen. This will also make the scale of the screen right.

Paste the picture in to the document and transform it to the size you want by pressing CTRL + T

Place the screenshot near the middle of the canvas.

4.

Ctrl + Click the screenshot layer. Go to Select » Modify » Expand and set to 10px.

5.

Create a new layer and place in under the screenshot layer. Fill it with #999999

6.

Ctrl + Click the screenshots layer again and delete it from the new layer we created.

7.

Right click the layer and click Blending Options.

Blend Mode Color: #000000

Stroke Color: #888888

Ctrl + Click the screenshot layer again, but this time expand by 35px

9.

Fill this with #aaaaaa on another new layer under the rest of the layers.

Ctrl + Click the screenshot layer and delete this from the new layer and do the same with the inner bevel layer.

Now apply these blending options to the layer.

Pattern is one of the included patterns in Photoshop CS2.

You should now have something like this:

Now to create the stand. With the polygon lasso tool draw out half of the stand and fill with #000000 on a new layer just above the background layer.

Duplicate this layer and put it next to the original, this gives a perfect symmetry on the stand.

Right click the layer and select the blending mode.

Inner Shadow Color: #333333

15.

Select the eliptical marquee tool and create an elipse for the bottom of the stand.

Duplicate this layer and press Ctrl + T and shrink it around 80%.

17.

Ctrl + Click the bigger layer and fill with #AAAAAA

18.

Duplicate this layer and change the colour of it to #CCCCCC and move it below the layer with #AAAAAA

19.

Select the Move Tool then press Ctrl + J while you have the #CCC layer selected and press down repeat this 5 times.

20.

Now we have the basic monitor design, you can add your own details to it such as buttons and the light behind the desktop screenshot. Read on for how to add more details.

 

LCD Backlights

21.

Duplicate your screenshot layer and fill it with a gradient from White to Black to White, with Black set to 50%.

This will give you this:

 

backlight with opacity to 100%

 

Change the opacity down to 10% to get this:

Buttons

23. Either use a rounded rectangle tool or use the rectangular marquee tool and smooth out the selection.

Then apply these blending options:

Colors: #919191 to #999999

Stroke Color: #DDDDDD

 

Power LED

25.

Using a standard brush set the radius to 4px and the hardness set to 75% click once on a new layer then apply these blending options:
