Gradient Text w/o Blending Options
This tutorial with guide you through how to make professional text with a gradient without using Blending Options:

Create a new document or open an existing document. |

This works best with a thick font. Type your text. Then create a new layer. |

Ctrl + Click the text layer. This will give you marching ants around the text. |

Select the gradient tool and draw your gradient on the new layer we created from the top of the marching ants to the bottom. Hold down Shift while you use the gradient tool to keep it straight. |

Create another layer below the gradient layer Ctrl + Click the first Text Layer again. |

Then go to Select » Modify » Expand and set to 2px |
| 7. |
Fill this with #DDDDDD |
| 8. |
Either Delete or hide the text layer and you are finished.
